Why you shouldn’t buy a Pocket Wifi. EVER.

Pocket wifis are small, compact device that can give you an instant internet connection when needed. There was a time when it had it’s fair share of popularity and I’ve owned several of it as the time comes by.

But since we are all living in 2020, maybe it’s time to put a nail on the coffin of these kinds of device and why owning a “Home Wifi” is a smarter choice in the long run.

Here’s a list of reasons why you shouldn’t buy a pocket wifi in 2020:

Short Battery Life

A typical pocket wifi battery life is about 2,050mAh. That means it can only last up to 8 hours of normal usage when there is 1 or 2 devices are connected to it. Sure it was made to be the “On The Go” device but you’re maybe better off by just using your phone instead.

Substandard Batteries

Speaking of batteries though it usually only lasts up to 6 months until it started to bloat itself out. So if you’re devoted to your pocket wifi it would cost you around 2 batteries in a year. And these batteries aren’t cheap. It costs around 250 pesos up to 400 pesos depending on where you’re going to get it.

Slower Internet Speeds

Dreaming of a 25Mbps connection on your pocket wifi? You’re out of lock. In my experience the fastest it can give is around 5 to 8Mbps, depending on the are you are in.

You’re maybe better off by just tethering your phone’s mobile internet with superior 4G or 5G internet power.

You can’t use it while charging

While this is pretty obvious, there are times that you MAY have to use it while charging. But the consequences are you are ruining the battery.

So with that in mind, any alternatives?

Yes sir. I’m actually better off by using a Home Wifi with a DC to USB adapter that you can hook up to a 10,000mAh power bank. With my experience, you can get up to 24 hours of internet connection by using it.

Okay, it might not be handy when you’re on the go, but you can always toss it in your backpack and with that larger battery capacity, you’ll have the confidence that the device is still running after a whole day exploration on the outside world. Plus if you have another power bank, you can easily switch side by side without any worries.
